A shady individual, Michael, begins to receive messages from the future that appear at first to be vague dreams, but soon turn into morbid visions that hit a little too close to home. With the help of a twisted scientist and a loyal robot “butler”, Michael finds his way to the near future and tries to stop his imenent death. Together the duo form an unimaginable bond and try to turn the tides of time. But to whom will the future favor??

This project was an interesting one. I chose to animals at random and tried to create a monster that included features from both creatures. I started out by sketching the animals separately, learning about the subtle details and features that would be within the drawing.
As I figured out what elements made each animal unique, I started to combine the various features like an evil scientist experimenting in a lab. The final result was something that I would not want to run into while spending time at the beach.
I wanted to try different combinations of these two animals.
I needed to establish the lines and subtle shading within the image
The last step was to establish the color of the beast and background.
Whiskey Neat is an American brand of clothing that is about portraying the true self. The clothes are meant to be minimally styled in a way to not overshadow the individuals personality, but bold enough to keep the individual looking good and confident. The challenge that I faced when approaching this project was sorting through the many ways that I could allow the brand to speak through collateral and the store itself. It was fun to design the multiple variations of the logo and word mark, and applying the brand to the clothing helped to make it a cohesive experience.
Some concept sketches for the word mark and logo.
Letter mark example for the brand.

I wanted the store to be a reflection of the brand's minimal styling.

I wanted this piece to be reminiscent of the old illuminated manuscripts from the 4th-8th century. To achieve this, I used uncials; an old style of round letterforms that varied in style throughout Europe. I took a fortune cookie fortune and wrote it out using uncials. The quote was about money and how the pursuit of it will not satisfy one's soul. This made me think about the illuminati and how people are thought to sell their souls to this organization or to the devil.
This was a fun little experiment with type and animation. A drop comes into the scene and makes the ABC's move in various ways. The typeface used is Archer. The concept I was going for was to have an ink blob consume everything in its path, similar to The Blob movies.
Each ink droplet affects the letter.
Gluttony is the capital sin which refers to over consumption or over indulgence in anything to the point of waste. My approach to this project was to break down the meaning of the sin and try to interpret it in as many ways as possible through typography. I started by making several thumbnails of possible renderings. Once I had a few good ones I narrowed it down to three and composed the pieces on a 15 x 17 inch bristol paper using ink. I left the images in black and white so that later I can color the image in digitally. I really enjoyed this project and it was well received. I will do the other sins over time.
This is a lyric from one of my favorite songs in the world, God Bless the Child by Billie Holiday. The idea behind the song came from an argument with her mother about money and her mom told her "God bless the child that's got his own". The song is a jab at the good will of people and how there are always stipulations on how much help someone can give and how much individuals can take when asking for assistance. It's a cold world and you gotta have the strength to keep pushing during the hard times and the courage to ask for help when you need it. Just remember, nobody will do for you, like you.
Innervisions is Stevie Wonder's 16th studio album and is one of my favorite albums. I grew up listening to soul and funk music, and this album is a beautiful composition of both genres. The songs are deeply emotional and have complex meanings that have been interpreted in many ways.
The album features songs about the inner city, race relations, love, and the pursuit of happiness. I wanted to make this rendition of the album cover depict bold typography with a maze like pattern going through each letter to show the deep subject matter covered in the album.
I made a stop motion video of pork carnitas making and eating themselves. I did not measure anything, and the recipe is definitely bachelor style but the result was delicious.

I wanted to show Detroit some love by making an animation, putting the city letters on some pistons and making it move. I really hope "The D" bounces back and returns to its former glory - minus the crime though.
